A Weekend Worth Remembering
Some weekends just hit different, and this one was one of those. It was also my first birthday since my divorce — the kind of milestone I wasn't totally sure how I'd feel about. Turns out, surrounded by the right people, it felt a lot more like a celebration than something to brace for.
Friday: Pool Party Energy
It kicked off Friday night with a pool party at my house — my sister, her family, and my boys all together, splashing around and soaking up the last light of the day. There's something about the sound of family laughing in the water mixed with everyone catching up poolside that just feels like summer is doing its job right. Good food, good company, zero rush to be anywhere else. Exactly the kind of night that reminds you why you host these things in the first place.
Saturday: A Little Self-Care
Saturday, I carved out some time for myself and got my eyebrows microbladed. It's one of those small changes that makes a surprisingly big difference — waking up with brows already done feels like a tiny daily gift to future me. A nice reset in the middle of a busy weekend. Something I would never have done while I was married. The slight pain was worth it, I love them!
Sunday: Dinner with My Sons
And then tonight — dinner with my two boys and eldest son’s Girlfriend and her daughter. Amazing food, even better company. These are the moments I try to hold onto: no agenda, just us, good conversation, and a meal worth savoring.
Looking back, it wasn't a flashy weekend. No big trip, no grand plans. Just family, friends, good food, and a little me-time sprinkled in. But given everything this year has brought, that simplicity meant more than it might have before.
This was my first birthday as a divorced person, and I wasn't sure what that would feel like walking in. For years, my birthday had been what someone else wanted, not really what I wanted, never much of a family occasion. This year looked different — a full house on Friday, a small act of self-care on Saturday, and a quiet, good dinner with my boys to close it out. Not a weekend spent proving anything to anyone or myself — just one that showed me, gently, that this next chapter still has plenty of room for good things, including being celebrated.
